In 2018, export figures rose by 7.1% to hit USD 168.1 billion. We have compiled a list of 5 industries with the greatest success in terms of export sales.

The Automotive Industry

The exports brought Turkey USD 28.5 billion in 2017. The figures climbed to USD 31.6 billion in 2018. The exports in automotive industry broke its record of yearly increase, surging by 11% to reach USD 31.6 billion, the highest figures in the history of the Republic of Turkey.

The Ready-Made Clothing Industry

The export revenue was USD 17 billion in 2017, the figures rose by 3.6% to hit USD 17.6 billion in 2018. There was a 7% increase in exports by quantity. The figures were record-breaking for the ready-made clothing industry as it cemented its place as the second largest in Turkish trade, reaching the highest numbers ever in the history of the Republic of Turkey. In 2018, 71% of all exports were to European Union countries. The industry contributed some USD 15.8 billion to improve the trade deficit in 2018.

Chemicals and Chemical Products

The export revenue was USD 16 billion in 2017, the numbers climbed to USD 17.4 billion in 2018. There was an 8.3% increase in export figures compared to the previous year.

Steel

Steel exports brought Turkey USD 11.4 billion in 2017, while the figures hit USD 15.6 billion in 2018. Turkish steel industry exports have flourished in 2018, despite being a year marked by a significant increase in protective measures. The figures rose by 20.8% to reach 21.4 million metric tons in terms of quantity, while there was a 36.1% increase in value, for a total revenue of USD 15.6 billion.

Electrical and Electronics

The export revenue was USD 10.5 billion in 2017, the figures climbed to USD 11.3 billion by the end of 2018. The industry grew 7.9% year-on-year.
